Our Story

Science for Pets began with a simple idea: what if the latest understanding of the gut microbiome could be made practical, safe, and easy for every dog owner to use? 

As a practising veterinary surgeon for over 20 years, Jim Willshire MRCVS saw first-hand how often a dog’s diet and digestion play a role in their overall wellbeing. Inspired by his own dogs — Reuben, a kibble-fed red Labrador, and Chester, a raw-fed Clumber Spaniel — Jim set out to create supplements that could be used confidently alongside everyday feeding.

Looking to the Science

In human medicine, there’s an ever-growing body of research showing how important a balanced gut microbiome is for overall health. While the same evidence base doesn’t yet exist in veterinary medicine, we believe the principles are worth exploring for dogs too.
